These 1949-51 recordings of predominantly New Orleans R&B feature the early shufflin’ & rockin’ sound that made the Crescent City a hotbed of early R&B.

This is another winner from the Styletone label. Quality and obscurity combine to make this a very strong release of mostly un-reissued sides. Highlights include Mercy Baby on his Mercy Baby label and both sides of Raful Neal’s Peacock release.

After leasing several masters from Fame's Rick Hall in the mid 1960s, Chess started to send their own artists to Muscle Shoals. In 1967 and 1968 some of the best records the company issued were recorded at Hall’s Fame Studios, including several that revitalized the career of their flagship female artist, Etta James. Reaching Out features at least one recording from every Chess-signed act who recorded at Fame, a good many of which have never been on CD...until now.

This is another great selection of pre and post war sides by artists associated with the Mississippi Delta. This four disc, 99 song collection was compiled by Neil Slaven who knows his way around a blues collection.
