Welcome to the April edition of BLUES JUNCTION. February was Black History Month. I don’t like being told when to celebrate anything. April has thirty days as opposed to February’s twenty eight, so you guessed it, we are going to continue to celebrate this month and truth be known, we do this year round at the JUNCTION and so do you. You are welcome to read my rumination on Black History Month here in the March edition of BLUES JUNCTION.
Our Monthly Artist Spotlight shines on a man who isn’t African or American for that matter, Van Morrison. The fact that this Northern Irishman makes his debut here in the JUNCTION, in the same month where everybody it seems claims to be Irish, for at least a day anyway, is only a coincidence.
I listened to an album by a Japanese rhythm & blues band called Bloodest Saxophone. That isn’t a typo, that’s their name. Their brand new, 2019 album entitled Texas Queens 5, as one might expect, features five female vocalists from the Lone Star State. I’ll give you the details and my assessment of this great album in our Monthly Album Spotlight feature.
87 years ago this month, Herman Parker Jr. came into this world on the Eastover plantation off of Highway 61 very near Clarksdale, Mississippi. His career in music is examined in a piece entitled Re-Visited:Little Junior Parker.
On February 22, a terrific album was released entitled Dos Hombres Wanted! This album by Rockin’ Johnny Burgin and Quique Gómez is reviewed in this edition of our monthly on-line magazine.
We also take a look at some other new albums. Check out our Recommended Listening column. We also present another installment of Charlie’s Re-Issue Rodeo. Here Charlie Lang examines several brand new re-issues that bring some old noise back to life.
We also urge our readers to dive into the Archive section of our site where you will find a treasure trove of previously published articles, interviews, album reviews, editorials and more.
Thanks always to our regular readers for returning to the JUNCTION. I also welcome those new to the JUNCTION. Contact us and find out how you can become a subscriber to BLUES JUNCTION.
Until we meet again…be well and be in touch. Sláinte
- David Mac
