Thank you David Mac! This warms my heart and will Finis' I am sure. Best of the New Year to Ya! WE appreciate your support! ~ Angie, Fullerton, California (U.S.A.)
Driftin' From Town to Town, but the 4 Jacks number was also a contender. ~ Derrell, Redding California (U.S.A)
Ever hear of Buddy Guy? He made an album in 2013. I guess he isn’t good enough for you. ~ Cindi, Evanston, Illinois (U.S.A)
I never even heard of half the people on your list. I want to listen to some of this stuff. Thanks for bringing to our attention these deserving and, for me anyway, mystery musicians. Keep up the good work David. ~ Barbara, Woodinville, Washington (U.S.A.)
Your top ten list blows. Cotton Mouth Man by James Cotton and The Little Walter Tribute album should be in there somewhere. ~ Bob, Kenner Louisiana (U.S.A.)
Roomful of Blues Live 45 on Alligator Records...ever hear of these guys.... Hello ~ Pat, Exiter, New Hampshire (U.S.A.)
Great top ten list David. Hard to not pick Finis at number one. I love the 4 Jacks. ~ Marieke, Bolsward, West Fresian (The Netherlands)
Steve Freund is the real deal. Great CD! Great choice Mac! ~ Doug, Gary, Indiana (U.S.A.)
What no Cash Box Kings in the top ten? You’re killing me Smalls.~ Joey,Eau Claire, Wisconsin (U.S.A)
Editor: Hey Joey they are a great band and in almost any other year their CD Blacktoppin’ would have easily slotted in the top ten. It was wonderful to have such a strong field this past year. Oh and thanks for the “Sandlot” reference. I love that movie.
Thanks for including our countryman Egidio “Juke” Engala and the Jackknives CD, Tired of Beggin’ on your list. If it made it into your top ten, I know it must be good. I need to get a copy. ~ Gaetano, Messina (Italy)
We can always count on you Mac to not suck up to the labels. They, for the most part, are putting out crap. Great picks all the way around. Now it’s off to Bluebeat to get me that Ari Borger / Igor Prado record. Thanks for keeping us in the loop on the cool stuff. ~ Larry, San Francisco, California (U.S.A.)
The Ben Harper/Charlie Musselwhite couldn’t even find a slot in your top 20. Give me a break. ~ Gene, Toronto, Ontario (Canada)
Editor: Gene I don’t want to ruffle any feathers here, but I had actually made a top 40 list and it didn’t make that one either.

From David Mac
Good Morning Ronnie, Thank you very much for taking an interest in BLUES JUNCTION and an even greater thanks for reaching out to me with your thoughts on “The Best of 2013” feature that is in the January edition of our ezine. The criteria for making my list was a variety of things all related to the recordings themselves, PERIOD. What is never taken into consideration is national origin, race, gender, age or anything else that has absolutely nothing to do with the merit of a particular recording. The list is not designed to be representative of anything except excellence. What I take exception to in your email is the assertion that I didn’t do my homework. As far as doing ones homework is concerned, there happens to be some musicians from Chicago on my list. Take the Cash Box Kings for instance, perhaps you are not aware that they are one of the hardest working bands out of Chicago and have been for years. One of the principal songwriters and singers in that band is a gentleman by the name of Oscar Wilson and he is an African-American. Then there is Nikki Hill on that list who is an Africa-American woman from North Carolina she encapsulates three of your objections to my list right there. As far as age is concerned there are people on that list in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s 50’s and 60’s. I will remind you that none of these things have anything to do with any of these artists ending up on my list. For me it’s about the music, PERIOD. Let me ask you this: Since as you say you disagreed with “all” of my picks, how many of those CDs have you heard? Secondly, I would love to see you put your credentials on the line and share with me your list of top ten albums of 2013. I enjoyed getting your feedback and look forward to hearing from you soon on this topic. Be well and be in touch.
