I received a letter to the editor by a Trump supporter suggesting I stop writing political editorials. He was kind enough to tell me he reads and enjoys BLUES JUNCTION aside from my political points of view that I express here from time to time. It was this man’s opinion that Trump deserves a chance to serve out his term in office. 

I strongly disagree.  

It is almost impossible to imagine any one human being less suited for the job of President of the United States as Donald J. Trump. It is hard to fathom a worse personality or temperament in that position than the man who has seized control of the executive branch. This man has so many deep character flaws that have been well documented and are on display virtually daily, that any laundry list of them here isn’t necessary. Suffice it to say, they constitute what is tantamount to a National disgrace and a global embarrassment. 

Multiple times a day he engages in some sort of communique, often a “tweet” that is so bizarre and often patently offensive that it would be hard to imagine any adult harboring, let alone communicating such “thoughts” out loud.

I find it difficult to believe that my fellow countrymen will tolerate this much longer. Trump has been in office for just over six months now. He hasn’t done one damn thing in that time to make America great or even decent for that matter. He has engaged in a series of scandals that make Nixon’s series of crimes, which fall under the agreed upon euphemism we know as “Watergate,” look like parking tickets.

There isn’t a softball league in America (or ‘MERca’ if you disagree with this editorial) that doesn’t have what is universally known as the “mercy rule.” When the score of a particular game reaches 10-0 the umpire calls off the game, as it is determined that there is enough empirical evidence to suggest that continuing the contest is simply an exercise in futility. It is universally understood and agreed upon that continuing play will just continue to yield the same disastrous results for the losers. In this scenario, the entire world is the loser and we Americans are here to enforce the “mercy rule” and remove this megalomaniac from office.

Yeah, I’ve heard the argument that goes something like, ‘If you are traveling on a plane aren’t you hoping the pilot does his job correctly. Aren’t you rooting for a safe landing and so on.’ To that rather juvenile analogy, I say, ‘No I’m not rooting for the pilot, as he took the job with the intent of crashing the plane into the side of a mountain. He was granted a pilot’s license without any experience or training of any kind and even refused to read any instructions before condemning an entire plane load of people to death. Personally, I’m rooting for a fully functioning parachute.'

We have that parachute. It is our elected officials. I know, they have been bought off by various corporate interests and will get cushy, do nothing for big money jobs upon leaving office. These jobs usually mean sitting on the Board of Directors of one or more of the corporations who pay that particular legislator like an employee to do it’s bidding. Let’s help them get to that promised land faster. We can vote them out of office, if they don’t do our bidding as well. Write to your Congressmen and Senators. Demand that they impeach this man from the office to which he has inexplicably ascended.

We are all responsible for this madness. We have allowed this to happen and have no one to blame but ourselves. I know it is hard to keep your eye on the ball when you are forced to work so hard and do the other things in life that makes waking up in the morning a desirable option. When we stopped paying attention, the vultures recognized a brain-dead nation and swooped in and began pecking at our carcasses.

Every day that this man is still claiming to be President we are still dead. Wall Street as well as Putin and Russian business interests have merged with Trump and his financial holdings. These are the vultures that have seized control of our government and are using us, our tax dollars and our country's vast natural resources to line their own pockets. May I suggest we wake up and scare the holy livin’ shit out of the people who have left us for dead, so they are not allowed to scavenge what little we have left.

It has been duly noted that in Russia, capitalism defeated communism and that here in the United States capitalism defeated democracy. While this may be true, we, the people, aren’t going away. We might be tired, restless and distracted all at the same time, but we are still here. If we were to pull in the same direction, work for common goals, we can take our country back.

I know that there is still an alarming percentage of Americans who want to be ruled by an authoritarian dictator who doesn’t share in the values that make Americans great. They want to do all the work and pay all the taxes to people who wouldn’t be caught dead in the same country club as these hard working, but misguided lemmings.

These flag waving xenophobes do not constitute a majority of Americans. Despite all their efforts to appear to be patriots, they are not. I wouldn’t go as far as to call these people deplorables. While in many cases that may be accurate, it just doesn’t serve any purpose. What I do believe is that many of these fact resistant people are irretrievable. Yes, they are often a loud, violent and a very scary lot but it doesn’t mean they get to be in charge. How much evidence do we need to determine that their “man-child” just isn’t competent.  

America needs to evoke the mercy rule. We have seen enough. I urge you to flex those patriotic muscles of yours and join the resistance movement. If you really want to make America great again, you can help to remove this strutting jack-ass from office.
